Stream 1: IP Certification Program

Take a deep dive into your company’s IP strategy.

This multi-day program is led by IP experts Karima Bawa and Myra Tawfik, authors of The Intellectual Property Guide. Future cohorts may include guest facilitators or other presenters.

There are no fees for startups to take this program, as program costs are fully funded by AccelerateIP.

General Overview

This program is intensive in nature, and it is comprised of lectures, case studies, panel presentations and assignments. Participants will also work in groups to collaborate on exercises and participate in discussions.

To graduate from the program, participants must

  • Attend all sessions in full, a maximum of one participant per company may attend the program
  • Complete an individual written exam and group oral exam

This program will be delivered over several days and is offered both in-person and online.

Who is the IP Certification Program for?

This program has been constructed to assist founders who want to learn the fundamentals of IP strategy, identify the IP in their company and build an IP strategy in alignment with their business goals. It is best suited for companies who are beyond the ideation stage, as you will have a better understanding of what areas of your business you may wish to protect.

What happens if I have to miss a session of the IP Certification program?

To complete the course, it is required to attend all sessions in full and pass the final exams. If you’re unable to attend a session due to illness or another unforeseeable event, you can contact the programs team to arrange a makeup session. If it is an online cohort, it is an expectation that your camera will be on with yourself represented in frame, for the duration of the program.

Will I have to purchase any materials like textbooks for this program?

Recommended reading includes The Intellectual Property Guide, which can be purchased online. There is also a course module provided for free that participants must access.

If I complete the IP Certification program, am I eligible for Stream 2-2 or Stream 3?

Yes, successful graduation from the IP Certification program fulfills the educational requirement for Stream 2-2 and Stream 3.

If the cohort is being delivered in-person, may I attend online?

No, participants must attend in the delivery method designated for each cohort. We have cohorts that are delivered in-person, as well as cohorts are delivered online, please check our page for upcoming cohort dates.
